Proceedings of the 3rd conference on Designing interactive systems: processes, practices, methods, and techniques

Abstract

To fuel an interest in what is often referred to as design inquiry this session invites participants to explore and reflect upon a recent industrial user-centered design project which is extensively documented on video.

Interaction design is presently struggling to expand established Human Computer Interaction practices, both because products are changing from standard screen and keyboard type applications towards handheld devices and ubiquitous computing, and because cognitive engineering approaches fail to capture the full complexity of user work practice and design organization. This has lead to a growing literature on recommendations for a variety of interaction design approaches, but only rarely to examinations of actual interaction design practice.
