It’s Not Just Context: Enacting Sustainability Through Data

In information systems, we tend to treat data as context[1], something that represents rather than shapes action. Sustainability[2] often gets the same treatment, a backdrop for our theories and analyses. When data are treated as representations of “context”, they remain something to be managed, visualized, or accounted for, but are rarely seen as shaping how we act, feel, or relate to the world.
