Context: Governmentsareprovidingmoreandmoresupport foracademia-industrycollaborationsforindustryledresearch and innovation via Cooperative Research Centers (CRC). It is important to understandthe processesand practices of such programsfortransferringscientificR&D toinnovation. Goal: We aimed at empirically investigating the processes and practicesimplementedinthecontextofoneoftheAustralian CRCs, aimed at transferring big data research to innovative softwaresolutions fornationalsecurity.Method: Weapplied case study method and collected and analyzed data from 17 interviews andobservationsoftheparticipants ofthestudied CRC program. Findings: We present the innovation process implementedinthestudied CRC. Weparticularlyhighlightthe practicesusedtoinvolveend-usersintheinnovationprocess. We further elaborate on the challenges of running this collaborative modelforsoftwaretechnologyinnovation
