Apart from immense benefits, computing innovations can also be responsible for many problematic issues that need to be understood, discussed, and ultimately addressed. This course focuses on such problematic issues that computing brings, including privacy, in/exclusivity, labour, sustainability and social justice, among others. These critical issues will be examined through theories, practices and exploratory methods, aiming to enhance the students’ ability to understand, reflect on, critically analyse, and engage hands-on with topics including, but not limited to, values in design, data ethics, critical algorithmic studies, normative assumptions in digital technologies.
