Materializing Bodily Relations to Data Worlds through Knotting

One-day workshop at DRS that invites participants to explore, individually and collectively, how materializations of data traces can be used to reflect upon bodily relations to data worlds of which we are part. We will re-engage with bodily data through knotting, which has historically been a means for representing data, such as in the Quipu, used as a data storage and archiving device. Through such data materializations we aim to surface qualities of scale, intimacy, and temporality within bodily relations to data, during the (post) pandemic era. By drawing attention to the affective labour of making data, we will explore how a change in material form from data visualization to knotting with threads can bring forward labour and intimacies, that otherwise stay invisible.
